Prof. Joris Thybaut, e-CODUCT project coordinator, presented e-CODUCT and initial project results at ACHEMA 2024, the world’s leading trade show for the process industries, which took place in Frankfurt from 10 to 14 June 2024. ACHEMA 2024 highlighted the changing times in the chemical industry, driven by advanced technologies and a commitment to sustainability. These events mark important steps towards a greener, more efficient future in chemical processing and energy conversion. The event showcased innovations in the process industry, including a focus on carbon neutral production and carbon capture and utilisation (CCU). Among the key technologies presented was e-CODUCT, a pioneering technology development in the field of CO2 reduction and climate-neutral production.
In the presentation, Prof. Thybaut highlighted how the e-CODUCT technology can process CO2 and H2S simultaneously and convert them into valuable products such as CO and sulphur, providing a more integrated approach to emissions reduction. By converting both CO2 and H2S into usable products, e-CODUCT solves the challenge of mixed gas streams and makes carbon capture and utilisation more efficient. The technology’s ability to run on renewable energy and its high efficiency in converting CO2 and H2S make it an ideal candidate for integration into current industrial processes and promote the transition to more environmentally friendly production methods. In addition to the technical development, a comprehensive techno-economic assessment and life cycle analysis has confirmed the economic and environmental benefits of e-CODUCT.
ACHEMA is the world forum for chemical engineering, process engineering and biotechnology. The world’s leading show for the process industry takes place every three years in Frankfurt. The spectrum ranges from laboratory equipment, pumps and analysers to packaging machines, boilers and stirrers to safety technology, materials and software, thus covering the entire needs of the chemical, pharmaceutical and food-processing industries. The accompanying congress with scientific lectures and numerous guest and partner events complements the wide range of exhibition topics. 2.842 exhibitors from 56 nations showed 106,001 participants from 141 countries the latest equipment and innovative processes for the chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing and related industries at the Frankfurt exhibition grounds.
