Dear reader,

With the start of the New Year, the e-CODUCT project is approaching its finish line. While some activities will still be finalised over the coming months, we can already say with confidence that our journey has been productive and inspiring. It has demonstrated how multidisciplinary teamwork helps to solve the many challenges encountered along the way in our aim to find innovative solutions to tackle greenhouse gas emissions using electrothermal catalysis.

At the core of the e-CODUCT process is the Electro-Thermal Fluidised Bed (ETFB) reactor, a technology powered by renewable electricity that enables fast, precise, and efficient heating to effectively harness the potential of harmful emissions as feedstock for producing valuable chemicals and fuels, such as methanol and elemental sulphur.

The ETFB pilot line was constructed in Slovenia, where final testing is currently underway to demonstrate the potential of e-CODUCT technology as a viable solution. The consortium has also developed economic and environmental assessment tools, such as a techno-economic analysis, a life cycle assessment and an online industrial process planning tool that provides economic insights for optimising energy flows and minimising operational costs within the e-CODUCT system.

Some of the project’s scientific achievements have already been published in peer-reviewed journals, including work on process electrification by magnetic heating of catalysts and a review of electrified methane conversion. The latest scientific study presents an innovative approach to acid gas valorisation, demonstrating the conversion of CO₂ and H₂S into valuable products - carbon monoxide and elemental sulphur - via a carbonyl sulphide (COS) intermediate.

Dissemination and collaboration have also been important parts of the e-CODUCT project. We have presented our work at major international events (AIChE, ECCE, IZC, GFZ, etc.) and have engaged with sister projects (through a shared booth and dedicated session at EuropaCat2025).

As electrification of the chemical and energy sectors is a crucial step towards a carbon-neutral society, we invite you to follow us in the coming months and stay informed about the final results of the e-CODUCT project.

Wishing you a collaborative and fruitful 2026,

the e-CODUCT Project team
